MAINTAIN

We love to keep an eye on our young designs to ensure the healthy evolution of the landscape, so we like to maintain what we build. Imagining the land decades down the road, we believe the success of the landscape over time is in the follow-through. After the design is implemented, here is an idea of what a typical maintenance schedule may look like.

SPRING CLEANUP

Planting beds and plant material are cleaned of winter debris. Soil is cultivated, adding necessary amendments including organic fertilizers and compost tea. A Spring soil assessment is performed and analyzed. Beds are top-dressed, edged, fertilized, and weeded. Shrubs are shaped and/or transplanted at this time. Additional plant material is added to the gardens toward the end of the Spring season.

SUMMER MAINTENANCE

Gardens are tended and weeded as necessary. Irrigation systems are monitored along with seasonal pots to ensure proper hydration. Plant material is pruned as needed throughout the season to ensure healthy regeneration. Organic fertilizers are fed to planters and garden beds as needed throughout the season, as well as organic pest and deer deterrents.

FALL CLEANUP

Perennial plant material is pruned or cut back at this time. The gardens are cleaned up slowly throughout the fall season to extend the life of the perennial show. Both soil and plant material are fertilized if needed, with organic fertilizers and biodynamic soil enhancements. Beds are lightly mulched for winter soil protection. Bulb plantings and garden renovations are performed at this time.

WINTER SUPPORT

Tree and shrub pruning may continue into the winter season. Shaping of trees and shrubs is done according to plant specifics throughout the winter season. Further cleanup of fall and winter debris is performed if needed. Deer fencing and rodent prevention are addressed at this time. Regular check-ins are performed throughout the winter.
